La Mirada : Seniors Housing Complex

Share

The La Mirada Planning Commission has unanimously approved a proposed 75-unit apartment complex for low- and moderate-income senior citizens, sending the project on to the City Council for review.

Under discussion for the past two years, the housing project is planned for a vacant, one-acre parcel at the corner of Valley View Avenue and Adoree Street. It would be built by the nonprofit Retirement Housing Foundation of Long Beach using $4.3 million in loans from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Commissioners stipulated that the four-story complex remain senior housing for the life of the project. If the money is available, they also recommended that the city Redevelopment Agency cover the cost of upgrading the exterior appearance of the building by adding balconies and a mansard roof.

The project needs City Council approval because it requires a zoning change from commercial planned unit development to residential planned unit development.
