A violent dispute involving a Huntington Beach couple Thursday left the man dead and the woman injured, authorities said.

Police found Samuel Abraham, 39, shot to death in a bedroom in the 14800 block of Penfield Circle after Melodee Abraham, 35, who identified herself as the wife of the dead man, ran wounded from the house into the arms of an officer, Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Barry Case said.

Abraham, who had a bullet wound in her shoulder, told officers that the two of them were having a fight when her husband pulled a pistol from a clothes basket, Case said. Abraham told Officer Olis Lockhart that after being shot, she fled from the bedroom to an adjoining bathroom, closing the door and bracing it against her husband.

As she screamed for help from inside the bathroom, Abraham told police, her husband turned up a radio to cover the noise, according to Case. After hearing a muffled gunshot, she opened the door and saw her husband on his back, wounded on the bed. She slipped out of the house and ran into the arms of Lockhart. Abraham was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where hospital officials said she was listed in serious condition Thursday night.

After getting no answer from the house, Case said, officers entered and found the husband dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Abrahams’ two elementary-school age children were not at home at the time of the shooting, police said.
