Women’s Basketball Roundup : Illinois Beats Fullerton, 72-61
Angie McClellan had 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the University of Illinois to a 72-61 victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday in the final of the Illinois women’s basketball tournament in Champaign.
Amy Torczon had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Titans (2-2). Teammate Cathi Hall added 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half.
In the Red Raider Tournament in Lubbock, Tex.:
Temple 64, UC Irvine 59--The Anteaters had a chance to win the consolation championship game in the final 10 seconds. With UCI trailing, 60-59, Natalie Crawford’s five-foot shot rolled off the rim and Temple gained possession. The Owls then made four free throws in the final five seconds.
Cheryl Eiland scored 15 points to lead UCI (0-4).
