A passenger in a light plane that crashed into a house in San Jose over the weekend has died of injuries suffered in the accident, bringing the death toll to three, authorities said. Robert Smith, 57, of San Jose, died late Sunday at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he was taken after the Saturday crash which took the lives of Virginia Jones, 32, of Sunny Lake, Ariz., and Emily Sherman, 64, of Fremont. Pilot Chris Verbil, 32, a naval officer stationed at Moffet Field, was in critical condition with burns over 85% of his body and a skull fracture. The Piper Cherokee smashed into a house near Reid-Hillview Airport while trying to return after developing engine problems after takeoff.
