Vote Postponed on Downzoning Proposal
The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has delayed a vote on a state-mandated plan to downzone 1,500 properties in the Northeast area.
Planning Commissioner Daniel Garcia said the commissioners wanted time to review new testimony given last week and an environmental impact report submitted by the planning department.
The downzoning is part of a citywide effort mandated more than 10 years ago to make zoning consistent with the city’s general plan.
If adopted, the sweeping changes will the reduce the potential population in the 26-square mile Northeast area from 466,000 to about 266,000. That is still 66,000 more than the 1980 U.S. Census counted in the area.
At the hearing in City Hall, nearly 20 people spoke, suggesting revisions to the zoning of small parcels of land.
