College Basketball Roundup : Dembo Leads Wyoming to 100-89 Win

Fennis Dembo scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half and sixth-ranked Wyoming struggled before turning back Georgia State, 100-89, Monday night at Laramie, Wyo.

Wyoming (5-0) struggled through the first half and trailed, 36-35, with 3:49 left before rallying to take a 43-38 halftime lead.

The Cowboys moved away with a 27-7 run at the outset of the second half on the outside shooting of Dembo, who made 10 of 18 shots, including 3 of 5 from three-point range.

Two free throws by Willie Jones gave Wyoming a 74-53 lead, its biggest of the game. Georgia State went on an 11-2 run to close the gap to eight points late in the game.

Wyoming’s Robyn Davis scored 21 points. Reggie Fox and Jones each had 12, and Eric Leckner had 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Cowboys.

Santa Clara 69, Fresno State 66--Dan Weiss scored 20 points and Jens Gordon had 14 rebounds as the Broncos downed the Bulldogs at Santa Clara.

The Broncos (2-2) led, 65-54, with 2:52 left, but Andre Sims hit four consecutive three-pointers and Fresno State (2-4) to cut the Broncos’ lead to 69-66 with 1:14 left. Santa Clara’s Mitch Burley made two free throws with three seconds left to clinch the victory.

Auburn 98, Grambling 59--Chris Morris scored 23 points and Jeff Moore added 20 as the Southeastern Conference Tigers trounced the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tigers at Auburn, Ala.

Auburn (5-1) connected on 68% of its shots (38 of 56). Shawn Matthews scored 17 points for Grambling (1-2).
