Notre Dame basketball forward Mark Stevenson was detained by a private security officer as he left a shopping center carrying two sweaters that allegedly had not been paid for, according to authorities in Mishawaka, Ind.
Stevenson, 20, a junior from Philadelphia, was turned over to police and released a short time later on his own recognizance.
No formal charges were filed by late Monday, according to court records.
Police said a clerk at a department store put a $40 sweater and a $9.99 turtleneck in Stevenson’s shopping bag without charging him. Stevenson was stopped by the security officer as he left the store at University Park Mall.
