Forward Sean Rodgers had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the host La Jolla High School boys’ basketball team to a 59-52 nonleague victory Thursday over Hoover.

Rodgers scored 11 points in the first quarter as La Jolla took a 15-8 lead. It was Rodgers’ best game of the season, but La Jolla Coach Rick Eveleth said he has been expecting that kind of performance.

“He’s had a sprained ankle and hasn’t been able to move as well,” Eveleth said. “He hasn’t had to miss any games, but he hasn’t been able to play as well the last two weeks. He’s just starting to get into shape now.”

Dave Berteaux added 14 points for La Jolla and leading scorer Adam Kleid had 12. Kyle Kupiec had 16 rebounds.

Darrell McMillan led Hoover with 18 points.
