Pick-Nine May Top $2 Million at Hollypark Wrapup

Share

Hollywood Park’s Pick-Nine pool, boosted by a carryover of $1,102,981 from Wednesday, could exceed $2 million today when it is dispersed after 27 straight days with no all-correct tickets during its fall meeting.

Under state law, the pool must be distributed on the closing day of the meeting.

Helping boost the pot was a victory by 12-1 longshot Five Daddy Five over 9-5 favorite Rufus Dawes in Wednesday’s eighth race.

If there are no perfect tickets today, the pool will be divided in a three-tiered format: 70% to the person or persons with the highest number of correct picks, 15% to the next-highest group of correct winners and the remaining 15% to those with the third-highest amount of winners.

The last time the Pick-Nine pool had to be distributed, at the end of the spring-summer meeting, the carryover of more than $2 million generated another $2 million in wagering.

Thoroughbred racing in Southern California moves to Santa Anita for its main meeting of the year, starting Saturday.
