Don’t Put Down Cal Poly SLO

Share

In your Nov. 13 article on Damone Johnson’s success with the Rams, your staff writer Chris Dufresne referred to Johnson’s alma mater as “Cal Poly University something or other.”

As president of the Cal Poly Athletic Alumni Society, I thought the following facts would enlighten your sports writers:

--Our athletes maintain an average grade-point average of 3.2

--Our Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted notable figures such as Mike Krukow, Ozzie Smith and John Madden.

--We have won 28 Division II national championships.

--We offer full scholarships in a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, baseball, men’s basketball and wrestling.

With these kinds of contributions to the world of sports, California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO for short) is certainly worth noting correctly, because with these credentials its name is bound to come up again.
