COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Chapman Defeated in Tacoma Tournament
Kelly Huston scored a career-high 32 points, but Chapman College still lost, 86-84, to Central Washington in overtime in the first round of the Puget Sound Holiday Tournament Tuesday at Tacoma, Wash.
Chapman was outscored, 16-2, in one 10-minute stretch in the first half and trailed, 38-30, at halftime before mounting a comeback. The Panthers took the lead with less than 11 minutes left to play and stretched it to 6 points with 7 minutes left but couldn’t hold it.
Mike Minier of Chapman made two free throws with 10 seconds left to send the game into overtime tied at 77-77.
Central Washington scored the first five points in overtime. Chapman closed it to two on Minier’s three-pointer with 50 seconds left, but he missed on a last-second 15-footer.
Russ Ortega had 18 points and Dave Roth added 14. Tim Brown, Steve Evenson and Carl Aaron each scored 12 for Central Washington.
