Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred on the runway at Oceanside Municipal Airport.
Witnesses told police they saw Roy Peck, 40, of Oceanside arguing with Freda Marlene Weber, 26, of El Cajon on the runway taxi area of the airport about 5:30 p.m. Monday, Police Sgt. Bill Krunglevich said. It’s believed that Peck fired two shots at Weber before turning the gun on himself, Krunglevich said.
Both died at the scene.
Two witnesses told police that Peck seemed to be having some kind of spat with Weber over being jilted by her, Krunglevich said.
Peck, a pilot whose plane was based at the airport, had just landed, gotten in his truck and driven to where Weber was on the runway. Weber, also a pilot, was at the airport taking flight lessons, Krunglevich said.
Police were told that the couple had been dating for some time, Krunglevich said.
