A 37-year-old Santa Ana woman was robbed of $1,700 in a supermarket parking lot by a man who threatened to kill her 22-month-old daughter, police said.

Patsy E. Gilliland had just placed the toddler in the passenger seat of her car at 6:45 p.m. Saturday when a man walked up behind her at a Vons Market in the 16200 block of Harbor Boulevard, Fountain Valley Police Lt. Mike Hanrahan said.

She told police he said, “If you value your child’s life, give me your money.” When Gilliland tried to turn around, he pinned her against the car.

He pulled her purse from her shoulder and fled on foot, Hanrahan said. The purse contained $1,700, he said.

The man, described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, in his mid-40s with a husky build, black hair and a mustache, apparently was not armed, Hanrahan said.

Neither Gilliland nor the child was injured.
