Man, Lured to Hotel by Tickets, Beaten
A 35-year-old Clairemont man was pistol whipped and robbed on Saturday at a local hotel after responding to a newspaper advertisement for Super Bowl tickets, said San Diego Police Spokesman Bill Robinson.
The man--hit in the back of the head with a revolver--was treated at the scene, Robinson said.
The victim told police that he contacted by phone a man who called himself Jacob Redloss after reading a classified ad for Super Bowl tickets in a local newspaper.
Over the phone, the man claimed to be an NBC executive and talked about television with the victim while negotiating a price of $850 each for 10 tickets.
The victim then agreed to meet at 11:00 a.m. in Redloss’ room at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina to pay the $8,500 for the tickets. The hotel is National Football League headquarters for the Super Bowl.
“Once the victim arrived at the hotel, the suspect pretended to know a lot about television,” Robinson said. “He then (displayed) a heavy framed revolver and struck the victim in the back of the head.”
The victim was robbed of $7,900 in cash and $600 in travelers checks, Robinson said. He said that the man claiming to be Redloss checked into the hotel Friday night and paid in advance.
An executive of the Marriott Hotel declined to comment on the incident.
