Burroughs’ Luizzi Verbally Commits to USC

Share

Bruce Luizzi, a Burroughs High defensive back, said Wednesday that he has verbally committed to play football at USC in the fall.

High school football players cannot sign letters of intent until Feb. 10.

Luizzi, who was first-team All-Foothill League and a second-team Times All-Valley selection, had five interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown.

The 6-3 Luizzi visited the USC campus last weekend and accepted Coach Larry Smith’s offer for a full scholarship over breakfast Sunday.

Luizzi subsequently canceled trips to Washington and Oregon State. He also declined a late offer Sunday from Arizona.

“Coach Smith said I should take my other trips and then make my decision,” he said. “But I told him that I’m just fooling myself if I didn’t go to school at USC.

“They showed me a good time. I really felt at home there.”
