Among the players who signed after filing for arbitration were Giants outfielder Candy Maldonado and New York Mets third baseman Howard Johnson. Maldonado signed a two-year contract. Johnson agreed to a one-year, $695,000 contract. Johnson had asked for $775,000. The Mets offered $625,000.
