WCAC Roundup : Santa Clara Holds Off USF

Osei Appiah scored 18 points, and Santa Clara held off USF, 69-67, Saturday night in a West Coast Athletic Conference game at Santa Clara.

The Dons (11-8 overall, 3-3 in the WCAC) narrowed Santa Clara’s seven-point lead to 69-66 with 44 seconds left on a basket by Rodney Tention.

Tention made a free throw with three seconds left, and after a turnover by the Broncos (14-5, 5-1), USF’s Keith Jackson missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Mark McCathrion scored 28 points for USF and Patrick Clardy added 18.

San Diego 66, St. Mary’ 61--Marty Munn scored 24 points, and the Toreros broke a five-game WCAC losing streak by beating the Gaels at Moraga.

Munn, who started his career at St. Mary’s before transferring, scored 14 points in the second half as San Diego (9-10, 1-5) came back from a 39-34 second-half deficit.

Al Lewis had 16 points for St. Mary’s (11-6, 3-3).
