An Anaheim man was arrested for attempted robbery Monday night after he returned to the restaurant he had allegedly attempted to rob on Saturday.

Jaime Garduno Garcia, 18, was taken into custody after employees of Coco’s Family Restaurant on South Coast Drive saw his car in the parking lot, then recognized him as the man who had attempted to rob the restaurant early Saturday morning, said Lt. Rick Johnson of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

An employee called police at about 7:30 p.m. Monday as Garcia left the restaurant in a late model Ford Mustang. He was stopped a short time later by Costa Mesa police near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Baker Street and taken into custody, Johnson said.

Johnson said Garcia entered the restaurant office at 12:40 a.m. Saturday armed with a handgun and a knife, and demanded the day’s receipts from the manager. When the manager refused, Garcia fled, Johnson said.

When Garcia was arrested Monday, police found a handgun in the car, Johnson said.

Garcia was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at the Costa Mesa Jail, Johnson said.
