Three Former Champions Eliminated in Katin

Three surfers who have won past Katin Memorial championships were eliminated Friday from the meet, which is being held on the north side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

Martin Potter, who won in 1983 and 1986; Shaun Tomson, who won in 1977 and 1981, and Mike Ho, who won in 1980, were eliminated from individual competition.

Surfers advancing to the final 32 included Jeff Booth (Laguna Beach), Mike Cruickshank (Dana Point), Joe and Brian McNulty (Capistrano Beach), Chris Mauro (San Clemente), Jim Hogan (Capistrano Beach), Bud Llamas (Huntington Beach), Mike Parsons (Laguna Beach), Dino Andino (San Clemente), Richie Collins (Costa Mesa), Matt Archbold (Dana Point) and John Parmenter (Huntington Beach)

Surfing starts at 7 a.m. today, and the individual finals start at 1 p.m. The team competition concludes Sunday.
