Local News in Brief : Mild Quake Registered Close to Northridge
Asmall earthquake registering 2.9 on the Richter scale rumbled through part of the San Fernando Valley on Saturday night, but no damage was reported.
The temblor occurred at 9:35 p.m. and was centered near Northridge, said Robert Finn, a spokesman for the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Caltech officials had not determined which fault was involved because the quake was too small, Finn said.
The temblor was strong enough to shake dishes from a cabinet, Caltech officials said. But officers at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division, which covers Northridge, said they received no reports of damage.
