Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : 4-Car Garage Destroyed--Arson Is Suspected
A four-car garage, which ignited Monday afternoon under suspicious circumstances, was destroyed and residents of an adjacent four-unit complex were evacuated for about an hour, fire officials said.
The fire erupted at 2:15 p.m. in the rear garage of the complex in the 1000 block of Valencia Street, Costa Mesa Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Ron McMinimy said. Ten firefighters responding with two fire engines took less than 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze, he said.
The battalion chief added that a ceiling of one of the apartments partially collapsed. Damage was estimated at $20,000, McMinimy said. No injuries were reported.
McMinimy said the fire appeared to have been deliberately set.
