A Sun Valley man riding home from practicing at a baseball batting cage was killed by gunfire from another car, whose occupants apparently thought the victim’s friend was driving too slowly, Los Angeles police said today.

Kurt Runge, 23, was hit several times in the upper chest shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday on Burbank Boulevard in North Hollywood. The 23-year-old driver, whose identity was not released, told police that another car began tailgating him. Its occupants drove alongside, yelled something about driving too slowly, then opened fire, police said. Runge died at 12:40 a.m. today.
