Nevada authorities working with San Diego police have arrested a San Diego man and held him for investigation in the slaying of a 7-year-old Northern California boy who was kidnapped from a casino last year, it was reported Friday.

The man being held was to be placed in a lineup today, where he would be viewed by individuals who witnessed the abduction of Alexander Harris of Mountain View, KLAS Channel 8-TV of Las Vegas reported.

The boy was taken from the Whiskey Pete’s casino at Stateline, Nev., on Nov. 27. His body was found under a trailer near the casino on Dec. 30.

On Friday, a Nevada law enforcement official who demanded anonymity told the Las Vegas Review Journal that two Las Vegas police homicide detectives were in San Diego. They possessed arrest warrants issued by a U.S. magistrate and a Nevada District Court judge, the official said.

The Nevada warrant charged a suspect with kidnap and murder and the federal warrant was issued on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Alexander was killed shortly after he was abducted from a video arcade at the casino.

Since the body of the boy was discovered, police have been secretive about the investigation, and homicide detectives contacted Friday afternoon would not comment. Other authorities, however, were able to confirm the warrants had been served, but could not say if any arrests were made, the Review Journal reported.

Reached at FBI headquarters in San Diego, Las Vegas police homicide Lt. Kyle Edwards refused to say if police had arrested a suspect.

FBI spokesman James Weller said, “We’re cooperating with Metro in this investigation--we have been from the start--and so has our San Diego office.”

Warrants were served at 3860 Ecochee Ave. in San Diego, and a 1982 Datsun pickup truck was towed from the residence, the Review Journal reported.
