Tennis Roundup : Becker Routs Leconte; Noah Defeats Cash

Top-seeded Boris Becker of West Germany routed Henri Leconte of France, 6-1, 6-2, Friday to advance to the semifinals of the $490,000 Italian Indoor tournament at Milan.

Becker, a two-time Wimbledon champion, overpowered Leconte in just under an hour. Today, he faces fifth-seeded Yannick Noah of France, who defeated fourth-seeded Pat Cash of Australia, 6-4, 6-1.

Earlier, Jimmy Connors beat Carl-Uwe Steeb of West Germany, 7-5, 6-3, and will meet Milan Srejber of Czechoslovakia, who upset countryman Miloslav Mecir, seeded third, 3-6, 7-6.

Srejber, ranked 58th in the world, beat Connors in straight sets in their last meeting in Philadelphia last year.

Sixth-seeded Andre Agassi, extending a string of upsets at Memphis, Tenn., reached the semifinals of the $500,000 U.S. Indoor championships with a 6-4, 6-2 win over third-seeded David Pate, while unseeded Robert Seguso ousted fifth-seeded Amos Mansdorf of Israel, 7-6, 7-6, and 10th-seeded Kevin Curren eliminated second-seeded Andres Gomez of Ecuador, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In the next round, Agassi will meet Curren, while Seguso will play ninth-seeded Mikael Pernfors, who defeated Jim Grabb, 6-3, 6-1.

At Oakland, top-seeded Martina Navratilova defeated sixth-seeded Soviet teen-ager Natalia Zvereva, 6-0, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals of a $250,000 Virginia Slims tournament.

However, third-seeded Hana Mandlikova was upset by the Soviet’s No. 2 player, Larisa Savchenko, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.

Earlier, fourth-seeded Zina Garrison, the defending champion, eliminated Hu Na, 6-2, 6-0.
