Major renovations are scheduled this summer for a historic, 75-year-old building on the Chapman College campus, the college announced.

The college’s Psychology Building, which was built in 1913 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, will be renovated at an estimated cost of $450,000. Part of the cost will be paid with funds from two grants, college officials said.

The Fletcher Jones Foundation gave the college a $225,000 grant. And Town and Gown, a Chapman College support group, also pledged $10,000.

The renovation work will include extensive repairs, new carpeting, painting and improvements in heating, lighting, air conditioning and soundproofing. In addition, new facilities will be provided for the college’s community clinic, which now operates in the Psychology Building. The clinic is a training facility for graduate students serving internships for the master’s degree in counseling.

“Renovation of the Psychology Building is our highest priority project for the physical facilities of the campus,” Chapman President G. T. Smith said.
