Local News in Brief : Planning Consultant Hired
The Whittier Redevelopment Agency voted unanimously Tuesday to hire a Pasadena architecture firm as a planning consultant in the redesign of the earthquake-torn Uptown Whittier business district.
The agency approved paying the Arroyo Group about $88,000 to come up with a plan and prepare environmental impact reports on proposed redevelopment of the district, where damage from the Oct. 1 temblor and a major aftershock has forced the demolition of nearly 30 buildings.
The Arroyo Group’s bid was the lowest of three submitted.
City officials said state grants are expected to cover the cost of the planning consultant.
