An arson fire gutted two vacant buildings in the 2200 block of Kettner Boulevard, barely missing a yard where a 40-foot sailboat was under construction.
No one was injured, but damage in Saturday’s 2:30 a.m. blaze was estimated at $90,000. Point Loma resident Mark Gumprecht, who is building a trimaran in a nearby yard, said firefighters’ quick action stopped the blaze just 20 to 30 feet from where his two-year project is under construction.
