The co-captain of the Virginia AAA state champion football team was arraigned in Alexandria, Va., on charges of attempted drug distribution.
Tracy Fells, 18, a 6-foot-2, 243-pound defensive tackle who compiled 19 1/2 sacks and more than 100 tackles in helping the T.C. Williams High School team to a 14-0 record, was granted a continuance by Alexandria General District Court Judge Robert Colby and given a March 17 court date.
Fells was arrested last Friday afternoon as he sat in his car in the Lynhaven area of Alexandria. He was one of 21 people arrested in an 11-hour drug sweep of the neighborhood.
Fells is charged with possession with intent to distribute crack, a potent cocaine derivative. Fells, who remains free on $5,000 bond, says he is not guilty.
Another standout high school football player in the Washington area, Rico Marshall, died Feb. 13 after he swallowed six chunks of crack.
