Berkeley Mayor Loni Hancock was among 12 demonstrators arrested in a San Francisco protest of the Reagan Administration’s AIDS policies. Hancock, Berkeley City Councilman Don Jelinek and 10 others chained themselves to a federal government building at United Nations Plaza and were cited by a federal officer for obstructing the entrance. They were taken to a holding facility in handcuffs and later released, federal officials said. The penalty is a $25 fine. “For the sake of all of us adults and children in the United States, the federal government must increase support for AIDS research and education to stop this deadly disease,” Hancock said in a written statement.
