Local News in Brief : Passenger Dies, 2 Hurt in Canyon Truck Crash
One man was killed and two others seriously injured Wednesday when an allegedly drunk driver crashed into a Malibu Canyon wall, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The dead man, a passenger, was identified as Sandro Mendoza, 21, of Sepulveda. CHP officials said the pickup’s driver, Hernan Rodriquez, 42, of Reseda and another passenger, Alfonso Estrada, 22, of Tijuana, were taken to Westlake Community Hospital in critical condition.
CHP Officer John Nielsen said the pickup was traveling south at about 65 m.p.h. on the winding Malibu Canyon Road when it left the road on a curve near Piuma Road and struck the canyon wall.
Nielsen said Rodriquez was charged with drunk driving.
