Arizona State quarterback Daniel Ford has regained a year of eligibility, according to Athletic Director Charles Harris.

The Collegiate Commissioners Assn. letter of intent subcommittee reinstated Ford’s fourth year of eligibility Monday, allowing him to play for the Sun Devils in 1988.

Ford played as a freshman in Minnesota in 1984 but left before completing one school year, a letter of intent violation, Ford was thought to have lost two years of eligibility.

He would have been finished collegiately after playing in 1986 and 1987 at Arizona State.

Ford’s appeal to the NCAA stemmed from confusion surrounding a change in mutual release procedures involving letters of intent.
