Local News in Brief : Hahn Wants Gym Rebuilt
Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn announced plans Friday to “cut through the red tape” and rebuild the Will Rogers Memorial Park gymnasium in Watts, which was gutted by fire Wednesday.
The board had already approved funds to replace the roof and lighting of the popular facility, which was set ablaze by an arsonist, causing $200,000 damage. Hahn is seeking to modify the contract in order to cover all the damage using his “discretionary funds,” Hahn spokesman Dan Wolf said.
Area residents and park officials expressed concern that, until the gym is repaired, the teen-agers who had used it will be more vulnerable to gang involvement.
