Imprisoned South African black activist Nelson Mandela will have a big birthday party thrown for him by Harry Belafonte, Dire Straits and Whitney Houston in London this June. “The Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute,” organized by Belafonte and U.S. distributor Radio Vision International, will be an anti-apartheid affair, benefitting several African political and humanitarian organizations. Mandela has been jailed in South Africa since 1962 for his opposition to that republic’s apartheid policy.
