Lopez to Play in Tournament

Nancy Lopez has agreed to play in the San Diego Inamori Golf Classic, according to tournament official Barbara Barrow. The tournament will be April 7-10 at StoneRidge Country Club in Poway.

Lopez has competed in San Diego County once before, in 1978 at the Kathryn Crosby Honda Civic tournament at Rancho Bernardo. She lost that tournament to Sally Little on the first playoff hole.

BASEBALL

After UC San Diego scored twice to pull within one run, visiting Iowa scored twice in the ninth inning to win, 6-3. The Hawkeyes (6-2) broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth. Thad Ferre had two RBIs and Matt Bynum had three hits for UCSD (10-5), ranked No. 4 in Division III.

SOFTBALL

Karen Winkler pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game and threw three scoreless innings of relief for a save in the second game as United States International University (10-15) beat visiting Toledo, 8-0 and 3-2. Kelli Winkler had 3 hits and 2 RBIs in the opener. Winner Nora Flores drove in three runs in the second game. Toledo is 2-12.
