A 26-year-old man was taken into custody early Wednesday after leading Highway Patrol officers on a 30-mile high-speed chase that ended when the driver’s car veered off the road and crashed.

Neither the driver, Colin M. Kalyan, 26, nor the passenger, Norma L. Perkins, 50, both of Fullerton, was injured in the 12:35 a.m. crash, authorities said.

Officers first spotted the 1973 Datsun 240Z speeding south along the San Diego Freeway in south Los Angeles County about midnight, said R.M. Petrachek, a CHP spokesman in San Juan Capistrano.

The chase, which reached speeds in excess of 100 m.p.h., began when Kalyan failed to yield, Petrachek said. About four patrol cars were involved at various points in the chase, which ended shortly after the couple exited the freeway at the Laguna Freeway.

Apparently Kalyan failed to negotiate a curve, and the car veered off the road and rolled over, Petrachek said.

Kalyan, who tried to flee the scene on foot, was arrested in connection with failing to yield.

He was booked into County Jail in lieu of $250 bail and later was released.
