Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Jail Inmate Freed by Mistake Is Arrested
Police have arrested a suspected child molester who was accidentally released from County Jail where he was being held on a no-bail warrant.
Brian Joseph Babinski, 31, of Laguna Beach was arrested Friday at about 6 p.m. at a grocery store in the coastal city after he was spotted shopping by a neighbor who phoned authorities.
The suspect had been in County Jail after his arrest March 16 for violating his parole, which stemmed from an April, 1986, case in San Bernardino. In that case, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of possession of photographs depicting minors engaged in a sex act.
The violation occurred earlier this month when he was arrested in San Diego on suspicion of taking illicit pictures of two young girls.
The suspect was apparently released last Saturday from County Jail, where he was being held without bail. Authorities said Friday that they are not sure why he was let go.
