A California Highway Patrol sergeant shot and critically wounded a 14-year-old Ontario boy suspected of breaking into a car in Montclair, police said. The officer, who was not identified, said he believed the boy was about to pull a weapon, but no weapon was found. “The suspect made a movement with his hand toward his back and the officer felt that he may possibly be reaching for a weapon and shot the suspect once with a shotgun,” said Montclair Police Lt. Darrell McGehee. A Montclair man who was delivering newspapers with his wife said he saw two boys breaking into a car and flagged down the CHP officer after the boys fled. The CHP officer and a Montclair officer found the unidentified boy who was shot a few blocks away. It was the second officer-involved shooting in Southern California in 24 hours. A man who reportedly charged officers with a sword in downtown Los Angeles was killed.
