Colts to Face Thoroughbreds in Polo Opener
The Los Angeles Colts open the American Polo League’s spring season with a match against the New York Thoroughbreds at 8 tonight at the L. A. Equestrian and Polo Center in Burbank.
Joe Henderson and Tom Goodspeed, two of only four arena polo players with nine-goal ratings, return for the Colts, the defending APL champions. They will be joined by newcomer Louis DeCoite, who has a rating of five goals.
Goodspeed, the Colts’ captain, increased his ranking from the fall season, during which he was rated at eight goals. The Thoroughbreds will be led by Dave Offten and Cali Garcia, each with an eight-goal rating. Another Thoroughbred, Cliff Sifton, is rated at six goals.
Each arena polo team has just three players.
Tonight’s professional match will be preceded by a pro-am game, which begins at 7.
