Oscarizing Where the Posh Nosh

With the Oscars coming at us full force, Outtakes decided to conduct its own exit poll--at that trendy industry luncheonette, the Ivy.

We tabulated Academy Awards predictions from 85 members of L.A.’s cognoscenti as they emerged from the West Hollywood boite one lunchtime last week (the real votes from academy members are due-in Tuesday, with the tabulations announced the following Monday).

And the winners (not everyone predicted in every category) are . . .

Best picture: “The Last Emperor” (33 votes), “Moonstruck” (18), “Broadcast News” (13), “Fatal Attraction” (8), “Hope and Glory” (3).

Best actress: Cher (39), Glenn Close (19), Holly Hunter (14), Meryl Streep (6), Sally Kirkland (3).

Best actor: Michael Douglas (32 votes), Robin Williams (17), William Hurt (12), Jack Nicholson (9), Marcello Mastroianni (4).

Best supporting actress: Olympia Dukakis (46), Anne Archer (10), Ann Sothern (4), Anne Ramsey (3), Norma Aleandro (1).

Best supporting actor: Albert Brooks (26), Sean Connery (22), Vincent Gardenia (14), Denzel Washington (8), Morgan Freeman (0).

For three hours, Ivy leaguers streamed from the restaurant, offering their opinions while parking valets (and probably future stars) chased Rollses and Mercedeses.

Actress Jane Seymour prognosticated “Last Emperor,” Cher, Michael Douglas and Bernardo Bertolucci, but hadn’t made up her mind in the supporting columns.

Not everyone was cooperative.

“I’m a member of the academy; can’t do it, can’t do it,” said one refusenik.

Another: “I don’t give a (bleep) about the Oscars. I loathe them.”
