MINNEAPOLIS —
David Marty, a Pelican Rapids, Minn., college student, received a second human heart transplant Sunday and doctors said the surgery went well.
Marty, 19, was in critical but stable condition in Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
Doctors said the first donor heart, implanted on March 16, seemed to beat normally but never developed enough power to circulate blood well.
Marty was given a Jarvik 7-70 mechanical heart on March 17 while awaiting the second donor organ. The transplant operation Sunday took about five hours.
