Duarte : Meetings on Recycling

Share

City officials have scheduled two informational meetings to discuss the curb-side recycling program that will begin May 2.

The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Town Center, 1600 Huntington Drive, and on April 21 at the Royal Oaks Park Recreation Building, 2627 Royal Oaks Drive.

Residents will be asked to voluntarily separate newspapers, glass, aluminum cans, plastic containers and yard waste from household trash to reduce dependence on landfills. Best Disposal Co. will provide residents with either 60- or 90-gallon wheeled trash containers to replace the unlimited number of garbage cans they can now put at the curb for pickup.

In a related development, Fiberfuel Co. of Azusa has agreed to accept all of the yard waste at no charge to the city. Such waste is now taken to landfills with other trash. Fiberfuel converts yard waste into wood fuel and mulch and sells it to the Procter & Gamble facility in Long Beach, where it is burned to produce electricity.
