Chatsworth Fan Embarrassed Both Sides

Doug Worley needed only the slightest encouragement to bare his feelings about Chatsworth fans’ behavior at the Colonial Baseball Classic in Orlando, Fla. last week.

“I told myself I wouldn’t say anything unless someone asked,” said the Saugus coach, whose team was 2-2 in the tournament.

Someone asked.

“Some of their fans were absolutely pathetic,” he said of the Chatsworth following. “The coach and players were great, but the fans were the worst we’ve ever encountered. I was embarrassed for them because they weren’t embarrassed. They acted like they were drunk.”

Chatsworth, the eventual tournament champion, defeated the Centurions, 4-3.

Chatsworth Coach Bob Lofrano was not surprised by Worley’s comments but wanted it made clear that there was only one instigator.

“Doug is 100% right,” Lofrano said. “I apologized to Doug after the game because of it. But I know for sure it was one person and one person only.”

Lofrano said he sent word from the dugout “to calm that person down” when the riding continued for a few innings.

“I’m not going to let that ruin what was otherwise a great tournament,” he said.
