Adrienne Lois Brown, who last week filed felony assault charges against her husband, soul singer James Brown, was arrested over the weekend at an Augusta, Ga., airport and charged with possession of PCP, police said. However, Brown said Sunday that the drug bust had been “set up” to pressure her into dropping the criminal charges against her husband. Police arrested Brown, 38, after receiving a tip (from a source they would not identify) that she was picking up a shipment of the hallucinogenic drug. Police said they confiscated nasal spray bottles full of “a brown, leafy substance” mixed with PCP from Brown and a friend, Ranell Wright. A cigarette Brown allegedly tried to hide also tested positive for PCP, the police report said. Brown said she was asked by a friend of one of her husband’s employees to pick up Wright and take her to the airport, but declined to identify the person. Brown filed for divorce last week but now says she wants to reconcile with her husband when he returns from a South American tour this week.
