Anita Page, star of “Broadway Melody,” the first talking film to win an Oscar in 1929, was reported to be in stable condition at the Hospital of the Good Samaritan Tuesday after collapsing in front of the Shrine Auditorium shortly before Academy Awards ceremony. Page, 77, had been scheduled to participate in a production number featuring a representative from each of the 59 Oscar-winning best pictures, according to her husband, Rear Adm. Herschel House (ret.). A hospital spokesman said Page collapsed from a “combination of things--the heat, exhaustion, the excitement.”
