A lawyer and private investigator confronted Lawrence Singleton at San Quentin State Prison, where he is spending the final days of his parole, and demanded that he show up in Orange County Superior Court in June to pay a $2.4-million judgment to Mary Vincent, the woman he mutilated in 1978. Investigator Thomas Martin of Orange said Singleton refused to open his trailer door to take the court order and asked that it be left outside. Singleton gave the woman’s lawyer, Mark E. Edwards of Tustin, a suit claiming that Vincent fabricated the story of the attack in which he hacked off her forearms.
