Saddleback’s Smalls Selects Hawaii : Hudson Also Signs; La Habra’s Seabrook Picks USC

Three Saddleback College basketball players, including star forward Vincent Smalls, signed letters of intent Thursday, said John Czimbal, Saddleback sports information director.

Smalls and guard Joe Hudson signed with Hawaii. Center John Waikle signed with Spring Hill College, an NAIA school in Mobile, Ala.

Smalls, a 6-foot 4-inch sophomore, averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds for Saddleback last season. He is a graduate of University City High School in Philadelphia.

Hudson, a 6-3 redshirt freshman, averaged 12.4 points and 3.6 points and Waikle, a 6-9 sophomore, averaged 8.8 points and 5.6 rebounds.

La Habra High School’s Robin Seabrook signed a letter of intent to play basketball at USC, according to John Koehler, La Habra girls’ basketball coach.

Seabrook, a 5-foot 11-inch center, averaged 21.9 points and 11.1 rebounds as a senior. She was named the Freeway League’s most valuable player in her junior and senior seasons.

Seabrook also was an All-Freeway League volleyball player, but Koehler said she will concentrate on basketball at USC.

William Allen, a 6-foot 6-inch power forward from the College of Eastern Utah, signed a letter of intent to attend Cal State Fullerton, which lost five players from a 12-17 team.

Allen, who played at Hirsch High School in Chicago, averaged 23.4 points and 10.9 rebounds at Eastern Utah.

Paul Oldham of Mater Dei High School signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Fullerton. Oldham was named The Times’ player of the year for the 1987-88 season.

Kevin Wilson, the Chapman men’s basketball coach, has signed 6-3 Kevin Stafford, the state’s leading community college three-point shooter from City College of San Francisco; 6-4 forward Darius Henderson from Santa Monica College, and 5-10 point guard Martin DuSold from Beaumont High School.

Chapman also signed two volleyball players--6-1 outside hitters Rena Rossoll of Magnolia High and Debbie Waller of Whittier Christian. Rossoll also will play basketball in her sophomore year.

Signing with the men’s soccer program were Brian Wilson of Villa Park and Brian Lou of Canyon.
