Gunmen ambushed a couple as they left their home in a drug-plagued Oakland neighborhood, riddling their car with 30 bullets, killing the woman and injuring her boyfriend, police said. Beverly Bell, 21, became Oakland’s 31st homicide victim this year, Sgt. C. D. Williams said. Bell was shot in the head several times. Kenneth Winters, 21, suffered gunshot wounds in the buttocks and was treated at a hospital and released.
