Coach Len Mohney of College of the Canyons knew it was that time of year again. Flowers are blooming, beaches are beckoning and Canyons had to lose its customary game to a lesser team.

“We’ve fallen into that situation where we can make a team’s season,” Mohney said. “They’re gunning for us.”

Bakersfield defeated Canyons, 5-1, Tuesday in a Western State Conference game at Bakersfield to snap Canyons’ 21-game winning streak.

“I’m not pushing the panic button,” Mohney said. “We played fine defense, but their guy pitched a great game.”

“We had our chances,” Mohney said. “We had a chance to score some runs early, but we didn’t.”

Tim Nedin took the loss, his first in 10 decisions.
