A burglar was shot to death by a 76-year-old San Marcos man whose mobile home he had entered Wednesday morning, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Investigators said the man fit the description of a suspect in several recent burglaries in the area.

Glen A. Gray, 19, whose address was not known, was shot once in the face and rushed by paramedics to Palomar Hospital, where he died at 4:43 a.m., a deputy coroner said.

A sheriff’s spokesman said that Gray had forced his way into the home in the 1200 block of Barham Drive about 4 a.m. and that he was armed with a Buck knife and was carrying a flashlight.

The homeowner fired a single shot from a .25-caliber handgun, the spokesman said, adding that investigators found that Gray had tried to enter the home through two locations in the back of the mobile home before getting in through a front window.

Detectives ruled the shooting justifiable and have turned over the findings of their investigation to the San Diego County district attorney’s office, the spokesman said.
