16 Will Be Honored on Israel’s 40th Birthday

Sixteen volunteers in their respective Jewish organizations and in Leisure World will be honored May 9 as part of the celebration of Israel’s 40th birthday.

The program is being arranged by the Leisure World Laguna Hills United Jewish Federation and will be held at 7 p.m. in Clubhouse 5. It is open to the public.

Those to be honored are Harold Silvertrust, Art Freedman, Mirian Zahler, Gladys Green, Laura Grossman, Ann Sigel, Mary Rubin, Leonard Braverman, Evelyn Learner, Edith Eisenberg, Irving Segall, Lawrence Friedman, Carolyn Perlmutter, Rose Kelly Hyman, Annette Glickman and Celia Saske.

Eloise Ware of Anaheim, a veteran of 31 years in the insurance field, was named Insurance Woman of the Year and Kathryn Christensen of Anaheim was named Rookie of the Year by Insurance Women of Orange County, a chapter of the National Assn. of Insurance Women.

Paula Martch, director and only teacher at the Serra Parent Participation Preschool in San Clemente, was honored for her work by the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools. Martch was one of 10 teachers recognized statewide.

In recognition of his 25 years of professional and community leadership in the development of Fountain Valley, realtor Eugene V. Kadow was honored with a proclamation from the City Council. Kadow pursued his real estate career after 30 years in the Navy.

Kristen Sperberg, 14, of Trabuco Canyon, winner in her age group of the American Dream Beauty & Talent state finals held in the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles, will compete in the national finals Aug. 19 to 21 in Palm Springs.

Kristen will be among an estimated 250 young male and female contestants in various age groups who will perform before a panel of judges.

She will present clog dancing and trick roping as her talent portion.

Kristen’s plans include college, where she wants to major in mass communications.

For the third time, Richard W. Freeman of Santa Ana has been named Ambassador of the Year by the Greater Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce. Freeman, a senior vice president of Global Relocation Systems, won the award in 1984 and 1985. It is given to the member who performs the highest caliber of work for the chamber and the community.

The Professional Interior Plantscape Assn. of Southern California selected four Orange County firms to receive six honors at its recent annual awards banquet in Costa Mesa.

Garden Habitats of Orange and Associated Plantscapers Inc. of Irvine each won two awards. Living Space of Costa Mesa and Plantique of Anaheim won the other awards.

The awards were for plant designs, installation and a variety of interior work in homes, restaurants and small and major commercial establishments.

Penmanship quality in copying a letter, addressing an envelope, writing from dictation and completing a form earned awards for students in the Garden Grove Unified School District’s Pen and Quill handwriting contest.

First places winners are Lisa Briano, third grade; Kim Dinh, fourth grade; Monica Martinez, fifth grade, and Yen Chau, sixth grade.

Matthew Frauenzimmer of San Clemente and Eric Wakeling of Capistrano Beach, both of Boy Scout Troop 702, were named Eagle Scouts at a Court of Honor in Ocean Hills Community Church in San Juan Capistrano.

The Buena Park Fine Arts Commission selected Yamaha International as winner of the 1987 Elva Liesch Hughes Laureate of the Arts Award for exceptional service to the arts, citing Yamaha’s help in presenting arts programs in the city. The commission presented an award plaque to Yamaha representative Don Patrick, along with a City Council resolution commending the corporation.
